 Our commitment to the Environment includes:
A chance for you to participate as well. We have set up a program through www.offsetters.ca where you can choose to make your event 'climate friendly' for about $2.00 per guest. We invite you to scroll down to the bottom of this page to see what it might take to offset the travel portion of your 'climate friendly' wedding or special event.
Our pledge in 2007 was to plant 10 white pine trees for every wedding to be held at 'Fields'. In 2008 we planted 100 apple trees instead. With all the rain we have been having, the apple trees are doing very well. In the Hall we have stopped selling individual bottles of water as water in larger containers uses fewer resources. Now, the next time you are here for an event, you can have a glass of water, with ice on us - no charge. As an added note, given that we have over 1000 glasses (from tumblers to stemware), and close to 200 coffee cups we rarely, if ever, generate any paper or styrofoam cup waste.
Fields on West Lake is committed to the environment. We started by 'recycling' our circa 1860's buildings. We continue with careful reuse of our resources. For example although the main floor of our barn had to be replaced, we saved the flooring - you will soon see some of it on the first floor of the barn in Helga Boelen's studio (just 10 feet below where it served its purpose in agriculture for 140 years).
As of mid-May 2007 our new composter is up and running as is our full recycling program. Our goal over the next 5 years is to decrease our carbon foot print and to adopt sustainable operating methods wherever and whenever possible.
